IRCE 2015 is just around the corner, June 2-5 in Chicago to be exact. We’re gearing up for the event and we’re excited!
The Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibit is one of the biggest retail events in the country, featuring more than 200 speakers and an exhibition with over 600 companies. This is a big time event if you’re a retailer, e-tailer, distributor, or basically anyone who has a reason to read this blog.
We’re sending a team to the event, which includes yours truly, and here’s what we’re most excited for. (Maybe it’ll help you figure out how to navigate all of IRCE’s awesome content.)
How an eCommerce Industry Leader Stays on Top
In his keynote session titled Always Innovating: How an eCommerce Industry Leader Stays on Top, the President of 1-800 Flowers, Christopher McCann will talk about all it takes to stay ahead of the curve in this complicated eCommerce world.
1-800 Flowers has been doing eCommerce for 20 years, and are planning to bring in over $1 billion in revenue through eCommerce this year. Put simply, these guys have been doing it for a long time. They’ve seen ups. They’ve seen downs. They’ve seen the epic .com bubble bursts. And, they’re still succeeding.
If you want to learn from the best, this keynote speech is going to be perfect for you.
eMarketing Track
This shouldn’t surprise you coming form a marketing guy, but I’m pretty excited about the track titled “E-MARKETING: Bringing shoppers through the door”.
If you want a successful eCommerce business, you have to learn digital marketing. You can’t just apply old school marketing tactics to a completely new (at least the last decade or two) channel of interaction. Things like search marketing, email, mobile, and a bevy of other topics are hugely important.
Scanning down the list of every session in this track, I can’t find one that isn’t relevant for an eCommerce manager or marketer or entrepreneur. These ones look particularly excellent:
- The Art of Keyword Marketing: Lessons for Optimizing Product Listings – SEO is not new, but it’s still underutilized (or done wrong). Brush up on your skills. Learn from the best.
- Bonding With Shoppers: How Mobile Is Mastering Promotions and Sales – Few people are in a better position to talk about mobile promotions than RetailMeNot.
- The Truth About Cross-Device Marketing and Millennials – Learn how to market to my peers. So many companies are doing a poor job. There’s a huge opportunity to thrive.
Creating a Brand That People Will Love
The session titled “Creating a Brand That People Will Love…or Possibly Hate” looks really interesting too. It features Eoin Comerford, CEO of the zany outdoor brand, Moosejaw.
So many companies try to stay in the box. Follow best practice. Do what the leaders do. Rinse and repeat. You can create success that way, but I’m particularly intrigued by the people who are successful “going the other way”.
I think there’s going to be a lot of interesting–possibly controversial–ideas that come out of this talk. I’m interested to see what Eoin has to say.
