Amazon has been in the news, quite a bit this week. If you’re in the eCommerce or retail business, you should be paying attention. Amazon has set (and continues to set) the standard for eCommerce satisfaction.
You worry about same-day shipping, because Amazon has it. You worry about managing product data, because Amazon does it so well. In order to be successful for the long-term, you need to start selling like Amazon does.
Here’s a look at what Amazon has on the horizon.
One-Hour Delivery
Amazon Brings One-Hour Delivery to Baltimore and Miami
You thought same-day delivery was challenging. Amazon continues to step up their one- and two-day Prime delivery with same-day delivery in select cities. Evidently it’s going well, since they are expanding the program.
You may not have the opportunity to deliver orders in one hour, but you may not have to any time soon. For now, if you can deliver quickly, provide accurate shipping information, communicate with your customer, and offer convenient alternatives, like in-store pickup, you’re ahead of the curve.
Delivery Drones
FAA Gives Amazon the OK to Conduct Drone Tests
Look even further into the future. Imagine how quickly Amazon can deliver goods when little-to-no human interaction is required. It’s what they’re trying to get to with their drone delivery program.
Obviously, this is still a long way from a competitive offering. But, FAA approval is just one more step forward for the program.
Internet of Things (IoT)
Amazon Buys Provider of IoT Services for Business
Amazon continues to experiment with brick-and-mortar retail, and they’ve acquired an innovative tech company to add to the mix. Amazon transformed the market’s expectations for eCommerce experience. Why would we expect them to attempt anything different for brick-and-mortar retail?
By the way… Did you hear that Amazon is shutting down Amazon Webstore? If you’re a Webstore customer, here’s what you need to be thinking about.
